The BrainTree Project

There is a growing and unmet need to support those living with neurological conditions in their homes and communities. This is why Multiple Sclerosis & Parkinson’s Canterbury and Dementia Canterbury have joined forces to create the BrainTree Wellness Centre.

The Canterbury Brain Collective Ltd (CBC) is a registered charitable company formed to establish the BrainTree Wellness Centre – an innovative, first-of-its-kind facility that will support Cantabrians with neurological conditions to live well in the community.

The centre is located at 70 Langdons Road in Papanui, Christchurch. In consultation with the two shareholding charities, CBC has planned the project, raised the funds, and designed the building. The facility is shared by the myriad of charitable societies supporting people living in the community with neurological conditions.

There is now significant data to show that a total wellness approach - covering exercise, diet, cognitive stimulation, education, and social connection - has a hugely positive impact on the lives of people living with a neurological condition. Medical specialists can prescribe medication to alleviate disease symptoms, but lifestyle changes can also make a significant difference to how a person can live with their conditions. We help people discover that there is still a lot of life to be lived after a diagnosis and enable them to live lives full of purpose and meaning.

The centre has two seminar rooms, a gym and studio, and a social area/whole food cafe - all of which is used by the non-profits and available for use by wider local community groups.

The building works officially began in February 2021, and the centre officially opened it’s doors in July 2022.
